Kieran O'Regan joined the Shaymen as a player in the summer of 1995 after being released by West Bromwich Albion. The former Republic of Ireland midfielder was brought to the club by John Bird who had to rebuild his squad after financial problems dictated the club had to turn part-time.

The tireless worker went on to make 158 appearances for the Shaymen and was assistant manager to George Mulhall when the club regained its Football League status in 1998. O'Regan took over the reigns after Mulhall retired whilst continuing to play his part on the pitch. He had led Halifax within touching distance of the Division Three play-offs before his premature sacking the day after a poor 0-0 draw at home against Rochdale in April – just two months after signing a new contract.

O'Regan will be fondly remember by the fans who appreciated the part he had played at the club both as manager and a player.
