Bracewell says 'goodbye'
Wednesday 29th August 2001, by Hoddie
A source close to the club has confirmed rumours that Paul Bracewell resigned after Monday's defeat to Oxford. Chairman Bob Walker tried to persuade him to stay but to no avail, and a board meeting tonight will decide what the club's next step should be.
Bracewell ordered the squad to go home after the game and not report back for training until Thursday morning. Clearly his mind was set.
Only Craig Midgley and Alan Reilly from the first team were included in today's reserve game against Chesterfield, with experienced midfielder Neil Redfearn in charge of affairs alongside Steve Thornber.
An announcement in the morning should make everything official, along with the news that Redfearn will take charge of the first team for the trek east to York. Where assistant Richie Barker fits in with all this is anybody's guess.
I wonder what price Bracewell ending up at Maine Road after all.
