Halifax Town 0-0 Southport

Sunday 18th December 2005, by Bubba

The Shaymen did everything but score against Southport meaning the two will meet again on Tuesday evening.

It was another reminder of the constraints Chris Wilder is working to with him still desperate for a prolific striker. Sadly these cost money something which the manager does not have at his disposal.

The Shaymen were hardly under threat in defence and the midfield controlled the game. But a clinical presence in and around the box was sadly lacking with none of the 21 attempts on goal causing keeper Steve Dickinson too many problems.

Whilst it was only the 6th game out of 27 this season that Halifax haven’t scored in a lack of goals in total must give Wilder the odd nightmare.

The last time Town won promotion they of course had the services of Geoff Horsfield who terrorised the defences in that fabulous season. And while you cannot knock the commitment and effort shown by the current group of players a lack of goals could be the missing ingredient which holds the Shaymen back from glory.

Darren Mansaram and Lewis Killeen started up front on Saturday but Flash seemed off the pace and Killeen was only able to try his luck from distance. Chris Senior added something different late on in the second half but fired wide his best chance.

Adam Legzdins at the other end did what was asked of him and his confidence seems to be growing. Marshalled by the solid defence when breached the youngster pulled off a number of decent saves.

Southport's time wasting tactics certainly worked and mummers of dissatisfaction spread around The Shay when just 3 minutes of injury time was signalled by the 4th official. But had they still been playing now it would more than likely have still been goal less.
